“Comfort of the Throat” is the debut collection by the project-based textile collaboration FALSE KIN, founded in 2013 by Nina Born and Siff Pristed. The oriental collection is based on a research trip to Istanbul, Turkey, to investigate the clash of modern culture and unique textile heritage.

FALSE KIN  takes great pride in an in-house manufactured process as well as untraditional showcasing of their work. Hence, the “Comfort of the Throat” collection was presented at a pop-up event in April 2014 as a constructed setting inspired by the many enchanting bazaars of Istanbul.

“Palate Palette” is a collaboration between Textile designer Margrethe Odgaard and chef Jakob Mielcke from Restaurant Mielcke & Hurtigkarl. The project resulted in four chocolate servings, in which they pushed the general perception and understanding of colours and flavours in order to give 60 guests at the Roskilde Festival 2014 a chocolate experience beyond the normal.
I have had the privilege of assisting Margrethe Odgaard during the project by developing and constructing 3D textile visualizations of the four tastes; sour, sweet, salty and bitter.

Margrethe Odgaard has further interpreted the knitted “tongues” into 2D patterns –  printed on wood and used as serving plates at the event.

FOR ‘KAPERLAQ- THE TIME OF TOTAL DARKNESS’

The inspiration has been drawn from the Inuit mythology, exploring how spiritualism intend to be  closely connected to physical objects; in particular in the form of occult artefacts such as evil ‘Tupilaqs’ and protective Amulets.

Based on the traditional physical elements that these objects were made from, a curiosity archive of textiles has been developed as well as a performance video which seeks to evoke the spiritual narrative aspects of the costumes through movements, lighting and music.

Collaborators:

Sara Laub, Kamilla Bruus, Jesper Duelund,

BEYOND THE PAGES” SEEKS TO TRANSFORM AND VISUALISE lyric poetry into 3-dimensional textile illustrations. Based on a selection of Danish poems, the aim has been to create tactile and sensuous bodily objects by capturing the essence of the poems in addition to materiality, atmosphere, objects, and colours. Through orchestrated photos attempting to combine both visual and poetic aspects in one interrelated and abstract expression, the overall intention was to investigate how to push the traditional conception of illustration as being mainly two-dimensional as a point of departure.
